Look up "Arura Photography"  it is taking pictures with a camera optimized to let in mostly just infrared spectrum light.  Apparently precious metals, after being buried for a long time will cause the soil around them to reflect a lot of IR light.

Maybe we can use day old bread to soak up all the moisture then feed it to the turtles? just kidding, lil humor never hurt anything. Sounds interesting the stones was recovered and not the trail marker. Why did you dig at that spot?

While thermal and IR source can be used to locate say bedrock after a rain, or a void in the dark. I would stick to VLF, PI, or GPR on large pockets of precious metals. These are just a few way to locate gold .

I like rocks and trails. Have you done any research, as to why you think you have a treasure?
