Fact is the life expectancy of birch trees is 20 to 50 years, and the life expectancy of an aspen is 70 to 100 years.   So even if you want to be really generous and say this tree is 100 years old, you're still talking between 1910 and 1915.

But there are a lot of people around here that set a lot more stake by their hopes and dreams than they do by facts and logic.

I know, but I was trying to be generous.....and what's more, it's doubtful that carving could have been made before the tree was at least 7 years old.   Any younger than that and it would have been way too small.
