You really can't determine a trees age by diameter.   As a general rule, in drought years the diameter of the trunk will not grow nearly as much as it will in a year of abundant rain.....so if you can have frequent instances where the growth during a single rainy year will be greater than the combined growth of 5 or more drought years.  This is why cross sections are used (either when the tree is chopped down or by taking the equivalent of a core sample from a living tree).   Then it is a matter of counting the growth rings.

This site does a pretty good job of discussing the subject without going overboard on the details and variations

I have seen the same kind of markings up around the meeks cabin damn area in wyo.
Also some other ( finely carved images of naked women--7 of them ) Kept me and the boy busy for about 30 mins while hunting elk one year. Not much gold in the area. There are a couple of cache sites up there. But I have never pursued them
Funny thing is--I have seen this picture before and explained it once before--to the person that took the picture

Pandsagain,  one of the tree sign is a human face with two eyes mean pointing direction, look for other sign/marker on the rocks found infront where the eyes is looking.  You have a very positive treasure site.   For more info just send your message together with the above photo in my    Good luck.

Talk to DALE BASCOM,,,He works for BYU--Brigham Young University. This  looks like some of the stuff he has spent  years working on.As well  as written several books worth reading.

Really more nonsense about a resent curving on a 50 year old tree and praise for a guy whose only claim to fame is writing books about such nonsense.
