These rocks have been lined up like this for 60 yrs (that we know of). What is your opinion of why they are there?

Here's what I know:

* At least 60 yrs undisturbed
* Not for drainage or water run-off
* Two separate sets 50 yrds apart
* On top of one of the highest points for 50 miles
* Rocks placed on West side of mountain (if this matters)
* Placement is not something natural
* About a 100 yards from grove of 200+ yr old Oak trees that have tales of historical significance
* Located in Texas

If the rocks were put there in the thirties, this could have been cultivated ground and the rocks placed as a windbreak to keep the dirt in place. So much of Texas topsoil was blowing into Oklahoma and Kansas back during an ignored global warming event (Dirty Thirties). If the rocks are aligned East-West, that is another clue. If all the vegetation is as young as the tamerisk in the background and no huge Live Oaks or other tree species on either side of the line. Is this close to any buildings?

I would rule out any type of cultivation, only because the hill is nothing but rock, rock and more rock. The cedar trees thrive because they are the cockroach of the tree world. There are a few older live oaks and post oaks close by. No buildings were ever built close by. The cabin was built in 1906 about 150 yards away and the barn is about 150 yards in the opposite direction.

If there is a cabin and barn there, the rocks were moved and arranged to create a landscape.

I'm thinking they was placed to direct water for a Wheele or other reasons.

The first could be be Riffles for gold?

Or just hold it back long enough to raise the water level a bit.

Hell, I don't know Chit! Cool

Looks to me like the rocks were placed to slow are redirect erosion so the hillside would support a garden.

I am now thinking like Seldom. They could have brought loads of dirt in and that is all gone now. I know what Texas Hill country looks like, just can't tell a cedar from a tamerack. javascript:void(0);Tell you what, load them all on a trailer and head for Wichita, I'll give you a hundred bucks for 'em.

I appreciate your opinions. I realize I am giving limited information and its one of those things you would have to see for yourselves, but if these stones were placed for any water transfer, run-off, redirect, etc., there would be evidence of erosion and there is none. The previous owner of 20 yrs. has an excavation and pipeline company, so I would think if this was a good place for run-off water, he would have certainly built another pond (built 5 on the property) somewhere down below or a catch system to water cattle.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I'm just saying your completely 100% not right...Just kidding!

If it was even somewhat level, I would think its a foundation of some kind, but its at about 20 degrees decline. Does anyone know of any Native American practices that might fit this? We have found over a hundred arrowheads over the years.

Also, if Homefire is right about the gold, you'll never hear from me again! Wise

Looking forward to hearing more theories, this has been driving me nuts!
