I am going to stick to it being either a forum of erosion control or an early at temp at hillside agriculture maybe by American Indians.

I don't have a clue, but, except for the 20% grade, Looks like a foundation to me. And why would we never hear from you again, Lonnie? You could still be a part of this site, sitting back smiling about all your riches, sipping on an rc coco cola, reading about all the little people  Smiley

Good point! I've always hated those people, but then again I've never been rich. Who am I to judge, I may enjoy looking down on everyone after I try it. Maybe I'll bury little treasures for everyone to find.

Not knowing the size of the area, I go with them being the foundation for a larger building.  As for the "level" ground argument, that is overcome back stacking addition rocks or varying the height of the individual wood members between these remaining stones and the floor of the cabin.   Raised floors were and are common throughout the south including in the hill country.  Advantages of raising the floor in this manner include: avoiding run-off water, natural cooling of the interior of the building, storage, and--depending upon the exterior walls and how they are constructed--hiding holes for people and/or goods.

Also, the cedar would be a rather recent invasive addition that took over as older oak, mesquite, etc were cut down and cleared out, especially once European settlers reached the area of the Edwards Plateau.   The cedar would have spread up from the lower elevations.

They look kinda big and hard to pick up and throw in a pile or stack.
I dunno, maybe a farmer drug them over from a field to a spot where there was no field?

At any rate an interesting gathering of rocks.

And this, my friends, is how it all begins.

You'll have to be more specific. What site are you referring to in your question?
