I found this last week.It has a long cross, D in the centre, 3 pellets in each quadrent,  S on the breast, The crown has 9 pearls and is taller than the
crown seen on Henry V11 penny. Unfortunately it has been clipped so much there is no mint mark left. I believe it to be a Richard 111,Bishop Sherwood, Durham ,Penny (1483-1485) killed at the Battle of Bosworth in Leicester 1485 .I am awaiting the report on it from  my Finds Liason Officer at the museum. If it is this coin it is very rare as Richard 111 only reigned for 2 years. Fingers crossed.    Martin

That is is one really cool find!!! 1400s! Wish we had some of that here in CT although we (not me!) do see some early 1600s. Good luck on the ID.

Thanks for the comments guys. This coin was found in a field which has been cultivated for years for crops ,not close to any buildings at all. It is however less than 2km from where Oliver Cromwells army and Cromwell himself was known to have frequented so hopefully I may find some more interesting stuff. I will post any if I get lucky.  Beer Chug

So, what have you found out from your Finds Liason Officer?   Jackpot or good but not quite?
