Yes.  The title says it all.  I have recently purchased a pair of headphones, that cost approximately 29.95 plus 10.00 shipping.

So far, I have noticed cons, and maybe not even any pros yet.  First off, the adjustment system on the headphones are need some work.  Every time I take them off, the adjustment is messed up and they become uneven pretty easily.  And, each time I have to reset them.  That is a pain.

2. There volume is not very strong at all.  I have not heard any kind of whisper of any old targets yet, and I hear signals that I can plainly hear by ear.  If not better by ear.

3. They seem to fit very well, and threaten to fall off of my head at any minute.  I suppose I could understand this con, but still.

Overall.  I probably wouldn't want to use them that often, if not at all.  The name of these headphones? Garrett Master Sound.

Have I spend extra money that could have gone to something better? Possibly, or maybe not.

Whats your idea on this?

I dont know !

I use Ear Buds from the Dollar Store.

I get 5 for $5.00 and just chuck them out when they quit or get dirty.

The places I hunt I need to hear whats going on around me .

I don't much like getting ate by a lion or wrestling a bear! Wise

Kinda good to hear Mr Slither some times too!

To keep them on your head, bend them, shape them and adjust them as needed.

The volume control knobs are there for a reason but a single piece of electrical tape across them will keep them from shifting on you. I believe they slip off or have a set screw so if you prefer you can put a piece of felt below the knob without voiding the warranty to keep them more stable.

As to the sound levels, you are going to have to set your threshold to the absolute minimum to hear those whispers. Adjust it so you can just barely hear a buzz above the point where it was silent. With changing conditions, battery level and etc., you may have to adjust it now and again.

The headphones do one other important thing for you. It gives you a bit of privacy when you are working near people and it doesn't annoy anyone else near you.

In an environment where leaves rustling, water burbling or surf sounds create white noise, earphones bring the sound right up to your ears.

Don't give up on them yet. Give them some time.

That is exactly why I decided to post this topic.  I thought that posting the cons might could help with other people that might have the same 'problems'.  In the headphones, the Threshold is quite loud.  I suppose I should turn them down so low that I can't but barely hear them in the headphones? I suppose that might be the reason.  The Threshold was so loud at first, that my head was ringing a bit.

Funny Thing your ears!

Most people can detect slight changes in tones at lower volume .

My ears are about wasted thanks to Telecoms work.

Put some White noise over a Ringing phone and I can not hear it.

Give me a clean tone with minimal noise and I can tell you what shape the object is.

Like I said , I hunt in the Boonies and need to hear around me.

Absolutely turn down your threshold until you can barely hear it. Sometimes I actually go just into the silent zone to help with pinpointing.

I keep tellin everybody.

You need Killer Bs basic or Grey Ghost Basic at least.
They are about $85, with a life time warranty, and it
gets better as you spend more money, usually.

You need quality made for metal detecting headphones.
Garrett sells those crummy stereo headphones and calls
them metal detector headphones. Ba!!! Humbug!!!!

If I am not mistaken, arent these the headphones we
talked about before?

One day, they will listen,

Tabdog

They relabel them, TabDog. They're good headphones. I have a set in a box somewhere but use my new RPG phones.

$85 may sound like a lot of money.

I know from experience that you can
easily spend $100 trying to find a good
set of cheep headphones. Then you have
to keep spendin money when they break
or do not work good enough.

The quality ones have a lifetime warranty.
they are cheeper in the long run.

Believe me. I have been there.

Got it.  I turn it down to the point I barely can hear it.

Tabdog,

I believe I have spoke about these, yes.  However, I am quite young and don't have a income on a daily basis.  That, and money is tight to begin with.  Having headphones is better than having none.  That, and because they are low priced, doesn't always mean that item is crummy.  Unless you have used these headphones, then I understand.  I will find out for myself if I have made a good choice in metal detecting.

$85 is a bit pricey for headphones, but I guess the lifetime warranty helps with that.

GoldDigger1950;

Do you notice much of a difference between the two, your RPG compared to it? I haven't heard a whisper yet.  But, I have had my threshold high, which was a mistake.
