Go Up Go Down

I was detecting a scraped area where a new street is being built, not where Sand and I detected Sunday. They found a Celtic graveyard doing the construction around this area so I thought it would be a great place and no permission required and I?m in the Celtic zone. After about 20 minutes of detecting, a van drives up through the construction site to where I am so I walked over and said hello. Two men asked to see my permit, I said I don?t have one for this area and I don?t need one, one guy says ?then you have to leave?. I said bullshit, who are you? He wouldn?t give me his name and continued with his riff raff and said I will have to pay a big fine and lose my detector. Again I said bullshit, you don?t know what you are talking about and he said he was going to call the police, I said hurry up, I?ll be here for another hour and he drove off like he was somebody. About 30 minutes later the police show up, in the mean time, I went back to my car and got out the regulations and my other permit anticipating their arrival. Well of course here in Germany, they vanted to see my papers so I gave them more than they could chew. After the formalities, I was showing them a few finds I had made, one officer asked me if I had anything I could hurt him with, I said uh, no and he pointed to my pin pointer so I showed them how it works. We were waiting for a clearance for me to continue detecting from their headquarters when one officer said I?ll tell you what, you continue detecting and we will come back if you are not allowed to detect, so I did one better, gave them my cell phone number and said just call me so you do not have to come back, they agreed and good deal. They left and I continued detecting, never got the phone call and it?s been over 3 hours. I stayed close to the main road so the Jerky boys could see me. Then a lady who was Nordic Walking through the construction zone came by and asked what I was looking for, I explained old relics and coins and showed her a ring I had just found. She said there was a Celtic grave yard at the bottom of the hill and said she saw the Archies doing the dig and saw the bones they pulled up, it was 200 meters from where I was and I honestly had no idea. So I worked my way down to that area and found a silver coin but, nothing even close to 2000 years old. I?ll be back there tomorrow for sure and get a few pics and hopefully a Celtic gold coin or fibula. The grave yard has been exhumed by the Archaeologists and will be paved sometime in the next year. Here?s the better finds from this evening minus a few buttons. A copper or bronze Rosary ring with a cross, I estimate it to the late 1700s to mid 1800s, a crusty silver coin probably early 1800s, can?t clean it now and a small buckle probably mid 1800s. HH, Mike

Hello Mike,

definately hurry up and detect all the are before they complete the road works! It's a great chance as you can detect in layes of soil which would otherwise be way too deep for any machine.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad expirience with these two jerks. Maybe they wanted to detect the area themselves? What a bunch of idiots!  Angry - sorry, but that is unfortunately what they are.

... okay, killing some one with a pin pointing probe ... pretty unique!  Wink

I hope that instead of the two jerks some good celtic finds will show up next time.

Please keep us posted.

Good luck hunting and best wishes,

Christian

Very good story...the guys probably wanted to hunt the site themselves and just wanted to scare you away.

Hit it again.
