So what are peoples experiences of after market coils?  Have you found a winning combo for your machines over the years or are they mostly hype rather than actual results?  I see the Garrett users seem to love the Nel Tornados, so what has worked or stank for you?

Company longevity and general reputation are far better then using advertising claims for a method of choosing. Coil-Tek and other companies that have been around for decades would be my choice.

Never dealt with After Market Coils.  Don't even know what's out there other then a few for MineLab.   Huh?

Hello
Would love to see peoples input on coils for older detectors that had just one or a few coils made for them.
On a newer detector the big incentive is most likely price of the third party coil over a factory coil until it breaks down?

Nel, SEF, Detech, Mars, that's 4 coil specialists who are all doing pretty well at the moment.  Have heard some mixed results though.  I bought a Mars Tiger coil 14khz for my Sorex Pro and I was not impressed.  It was so sparky I had to run high signal filter, drop the gain and sensitivity real low and I couldn't see the point.

Recently purchased a 6inch Coiltek Goldseeker for my XT17000. Very impressed with it. Coiltek seem to be good value for money. Yeah Assembler. Factory coils for Garretts and Mls are over-priced, but the 6 inch concentric for the GMT is fairly priced.
I am just in the process of making a coil winding jig from a bike frame to have a crack at making VLF coils for some of the kits I have....I will hang the expense and purchase some shells though.

Tim if you want a concentric for your GMT try and find one of the Early Goldmaster 6x10s, What the Factory 6x10 DD see's at 1 inch the Older GM Coils will see at 3 inches and it will make your GMT hotter than a Goldbug II or as good at leased, That is why you hear people saying that the Older Goldmasters were more sensitive. and it will be a bit hotter than they 6" Coil, I found this out about 2 years ago after reading that to GBII had a concentric then I was told that the older Whites machines use to use a Concentric so I imported one from the US that was brand new even though it was 20 years old, But I am sure you will be impressed.

RR.

Thanks RR, I have the 6x10 GM3 concentric!!. It was only after sourcing one that I heard about the (newly released here) 6 inch round concentrics. I haven't tried it out on the fields yet. I used the DD down at Wedderburn the first time out. I had to pick my patches to skip the worst ironstone, but picked up a 5 inch conglomerate rock, which had 2 pinheads and 1/4 of a match-head inside it once dollied up. Bloody tin-ass luck to pick it though.
Incidentally I bought an IDXpro from the US-just the box, screen and topshaft. It had MrBill mods. The seller thought it was faulty, so I got it cheap ($65+60 postage).  Then I got a coil separately. The only one not costing an arm and a leg was a 6x4 Bluemax shooter. Not a dedicated gold detector, but a handy machine all the same.

Cool, Well done Tim, I did post about the GM coils over at PA about a year or 2 ago, But most seem to have very little time for it so I gave up, But I also made posts about over at Whites etc and since then this new 6" got released and Nokta and Makro have released Concentrics for their models.

Tim, I can still get all the Coils for the IDX from the little Shooter up to the 15" Maxim Concentric, If you have areas where you could run that beast then you need to go to the Gym so you can dig 3 to 4 foot Holes, I have the 15khz version for the MXT A/P which costs a lot more that the one for yours because it is only about $160 AUD,

The one for the MXT when turned up flat out can see test bits weighing 0.02 to 0.03 grams So it is worth keeping in mind if you ever get the urge to Dig GPX sized Holes, But anyway I can get any other coils made for that IDX if you need them.

Here ya go mate, Down Load the file on this link and you will have a complete list of Whites coils from about the Last 30 Years +.

Try this shop in Midvale, Western Australia. They always used to have a good supply of second hand equipment and coils. Haven't been by in 5 years now but they're a friendly bunch.
