Go Up Go Down

Hi everyone!  Normally when I metal detect, I am in areas where I am very familiar with the history of the land.  However, later this year, I will be exploring a small old farm in Monroe, VA with my family and I haven't been able to find much information on the area.  I'm specifically doing research to avoid injury (ex. chemical plants, civil war munitions, etc), if you have any info on the area please share, thanks and happy new year!

Start by researching Amherst county, Virginia instead of Monroe, Virginia.   Since Monroe is an unincorporated community, you will probably have better results searching either Amherst county or Lynchburg (since Lynchburg is only about 6 miles away).  You'll want to focus on things that occurred "north" of Lynchburg.   If you have access to a good map (online tops would be fine), keep that handing so you can cross-reference fields and streams you read about while checking Amherst/Lynchburg.   That will let you know where things happened in relation to Monroe (which is your ultimate goal).   The more you can bone up on the county history, the better you will be able to recognize the things you mention you are looking to avoid.
