Go Up Go Down

Picked up the Cen-Tech handheld MD for use as a pinpointer. Local Harbor Freight in Paducah was sold out last week but they called when one came in and set it aside. Great customer service and a hard to beat price at $16.00 and change.

It air tests just fine at a couple inches on a quarter and a bit less on dimes/pennies. Comes with a case, 9v battery, bright white LED to illuminate search area, and emits good loud tone. I realize it will almost certainly not perform as well as a Garrett Pro Pointer, but I'm looking forward to seeing just what it will do later this week as work permits. When I consider all the ways I've blown $16.00 or more in the past, this looks like a reasonable experiment for the money. I'm usually not more than a couple inches out on my digs, if that, so it could be just what is needed.

I'll post the results and in the meantime would be interested in hearing from any who've tried this unit out.

Take Care & HH

Paul P.

Haven't tried one but definitely tell us how you like it.

16$ is one trip to the burger stand, I could miss a few of those and survive! Cheesy

WHile the regular price is $16 or so, it has gone on sale for as little as $9.99. Unfortunately, they don't always have them in stock so it is worth while to call ahead and make sure they have a few in stock.  I bought two but haven't torn one apart yet to find out what the actual circuit is based on. Any ideas?
Doug

When I re-started detecting I picked one up myself. At $12, I am very pleased with the results. I had never used a pin-pointer and was pleasantly surprised at the convenience that it affords. Saves a bunch of time!

For the $16 it was more than I actually expected.

I bought two Cen Techs Pin pointers at Harbor Freight here in Chattanooga for my daughter and her friend. I didn't want to spend a ton of money for children that are 9 years old and I sure couldn't complain about the $16.00 price tag. The Cen techs don't have any vibration but, one can still hear the tone quit clearly even with headphones on. I will leave all the testing of these pin pointers in the hands of my two 9 year old treasure hunters.   So Far they have worked really well for the girls. If you turn the sensitivity all the way up they will continually squall, but set properly will work up to 3 inch from the probe. About an 1 1/2" is all I would think one would want anyway. What is really nice is they come with a canvas case with a Velcro belt strap.  All in all...,? I think, money well spent.
