Hey GD,
Not a forum, but I hear that toys or us has them, made by Hasbro $19.99, but wait,,,,
If you buy right now, you get a second one absoutley free, just pay a small shipping and handling fee of $199.99, but wait again,,,if you order with a credit card they will send you a delux plastic garbage bag to put it all in. What a deal-better than a stimlus package from the government.

Lem

LoL

I can never resist those ads on TV in the early hours before dawn. I have to hide my credit card because I need every mop, exercise appliance, CD or DVD, and motivational book I see. Until I turn off the TV. Then sanity returns.

It is a good thing they do not sell those bottle detectors there.

would like a little feed back . Am wanting to upgrade to a newer detector. Have been looking at the top brands, or rather the most expencsive and a tad lower. The new lcd screens seem a bit intimiding or complicated to use. Are these new ones over rated , do all this extra functions operate well and are they needed. I am leaning towards a tesaro, but do like garret and whites, I actually think i will end up with a whites model.

thought some good feed back would be nice, before i purchase.

thanks lem

Hello Lem . For the Beach I recommend the Minelab Excalibur II with an 8 inch coil , for Dry land searching I recommend Tesoro Vaquero . The Vaquero will work good on salty beaches but not as good as the Excalibur . The Vaquero is half the price of the Excalibur so I think for the Money the Vaquero is the way to go , unless you only go beach hunting then Minelab Excalibur is the best choice !!! Others are welcome to comment here .
HH...........Regards......Eugene

Hm, I might have to give some thinking on a bottle metal detector.  It may be quite difficult, but maybe there could be a very sensitive detector, that might be able to detect the very small molecule sized minerals in the glass, from when it was sand blasted?

I don't know, just giving possibilities. Grin

Metal_Inspector, I have come to believe that nothing in the way of sensors is impossible. I once worked on a prototype system that could see through walls. At first I thought it was nuts, impossible to accomplish. Then, after 200 or so engineering hours, we managed to see using an infrared sensing algorithm embedded in a full blown PC. Not portable, but certainly doable. Today, such devices are common - you see them used by law enforcement all over the world. Back then? Science fiction.

The relative value of bottles would have to be much higher to entice anyone to design and manufacture a bottle detector. Those who keep finding those multi-thousand dollar rings, gold coins and other treasure are what keep the metal detector engineers at the drawing board.

GD

Point well taken, and from the finical and demand side yes that technology is surely not even on the list. Although the ability to see things in the ground and inside structors has me fasinated. Am toying with the idea of a start up company useing high tech equiptment to facilitate, others who might need these types of services. I think it would be very interesting work that would take me to many exciting adventures.

Tabdog,

I hunt old houses and fields, rivers and creeks. Don't get into sand much. I am not to big on relic hunting. I like coin and jewerly hunting, but if it is a very old site I will go to all metal. Here in the northwest the soil is very mineralized especially the idaho mts.
I like going for the deep targets in coin mode. Now I am planning a trip to florida for some beach hunting and will be dealing with sand. I at times will hunt the waters edge to maybe 2 feet in. I have been just recently told of an area close to me where some gold nuggets have been found very shallow and on top of the ground.

Lem

I think a Fisher F75 would be worth looking at.
I have not used one. I am going on reports of
other seasoned detectorist.

Now, it does take some getting used to from
what I understand, but I sure would like to get
my hands on one.

It has been reported to get depth in those places
with nasty conditions that the others could only
get minimum depth.

The F75 is not very heavy and they say it is very
well balanced.

In the Tesoro line, the Tejon is the relic and field
type hunting machine. It is hard to handle for a lot
of less experienced hunters, but it likes low conductors
like mini balls and some buttons and so on. It will hunt
coins and stuff also.

The Tesoro TID machines are nice, but not as well
developed as some other makers.

I use the light weight Tesoro uMax machines. They are
just over two pounds and give good performance. But,
not like some Whites or the 2500. Or tha Tejon for that
matter.

But those expensive, hot rod, blown out machines do
not attract me.

I just except my machines for what they can and can
not do, and use them as effectivly as I can, or want
to.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

I guess it depends if you are detecting on the dry white sand or going near or into the salt water.

Ground balancing can sometimes be a problem when near salt water.

Good luck and keep us all informed about what you get.

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the feed back, most likely I will be on dry sand, a lot of areas along the treasure coast are forbidden to hunt in the water-(salvage rights). My plan is to hunt the dune areas as these areas continue to erode thru time and seem to produce some incredable finds. I have always been one to hunt off the beaten path.

Thanks

Tabdog,

I read the reviews on the f75 model, like what I read, not a complicated machine, I also think the hot rod machines aren't really worth the $. Now how about this. seems there are some other coils that say they go deeper than the ones that come with the machines. What is your opinion on this factor, are off brands compatible with other machines.
