Hey people, I'm new on here, so first of all hello to all.  Now a question, what do you consider a good budget detector, is there such a thing? I'm sure many of you have had some great finds with low cost machines, so which ones, and why, get your thumbs up?

Hi Mudflap.  New to the forum but I have detectors.  Just interested to hear what peoples thoughts are on budget machines and what worked well for them.

Hi Homefire, I guess you could say anything up to around £300 is on a budget, before you start creeping towards what a lot of people term the "mid price" market.  I guess I was trying to give some flexibility to the topic and to peoples replies.  I read lots of comments about reliable performers, or machines that punch above their price tag.  Just wondered what machines are peoples "little legends" either using now or just some happy memories.

  No Quid sign on my Computer.  Had to Cut and Paste Yours. LOL     £300  For that kind of money you could have anything I've ever had.   A pile of Garrett, Bounty hunter a Tesero ! I think the most I've ever spent was about $380 for a Master hunter ADS new.   I loved the older Garrett's but they sorta lost my interest with the Newer machines they came out with.  Tesero makes some super machines within that price.  Under Estimated is the LOW LIFE Bounty Hunter.  People think there just a Beginners toy but have produced quite well for many people including me.  A lot of Used machines within that range.   If your able and into it, you could DIY a few Fine Machines for under that price..

I ask you as experimented: Is it expensive machines are always far better than shipper one, or is only marketing matter ?

No Expensive machines are NOT always better.    Better is a Relevant Term.  Some machines are over price from the Start.   Some are better built then others.  Some have more Bells and Whistles.  Some are designed better to do a cert-en job better then others.  You don't take a 6Khz machine out looking for small Gold Nuggets.  Depending on what you want out of your machine would make a difference.  Some just want a sorta do all machine which never does anything Best but will do most of the jobs ok.  Some want a Tuned to This kinda hunting and it does it Great.

You Get what I'm trying to say?

 i can see, i think that principes are same for all detectors and nothing explain the high price that we find in market, just adding more LCD screens and more adjusting buttons seems to add more complexity of use than facilitate the detection or give more sensitivity to the machine. I personnally havn't tried detectors, but learning about it and seeing websites of companies selling it  , i'm not convinced that prices are fair;

Many people prefer simpler machines because there is less to confuse the mind.  Tones are always the king so some people don't want screens.  Expensive machines usually give you more intricate settings and the ability to make fine adjustments to how the machine runs, and in some cases it can be like having more than one machine, it's whether or not you see this as  something you want or need.  It's each to their own and often depends on the size of your wallet.  I always think that the simpler the machines, the more you must think about which one is best set up to the environments you mostly search because you don't have the adjustments.

I am seeing some great reviews of the Garrett 400i which is a very reasonable £320.00 in the UK.
