Hi everyone this is what we need to do starting this starting Monday all day if you can and every day there after. We must let them know were not going away. The FMDAC has all ready sent out the Call to Arms notice to all of there members. Please help. We can't hunt if they keep taking your parks and beaches away. Staten Island is down to two ( 2 ) parks. You DO NOT have to live here to make the calls or be a detectorist. Please SAVE YOUR PARKS AND ENJOYMENT Thank You John SIHH
Dear Fellow Detectorists and Hobby Enthusiasts,
In 2009, we all banded together and with a concerted effort initiated a call campaign to NYC Parks and Mayor Bloomberg?s office regarding NYC Parks Department discriminating against those of us who enjoy the recreational hobby of metal detecting on public use land.
Thanks to all of you, we were successful in making our point that closing Prospect Park was discriminatory. NYC Parks reversed their stance and put Prospect Park back on the permit.
Now the public employees, paid by our tax dollars, are once again discriminating against us as a group. They have removed Clove Lakes Park for no reason and they have added absurd rules such as you can not metal detect within 50 feet of any tree.
We have tried talking with NYC Parks and they will not budge. It is time we all once again band together and let our voices be heard.
WHAT TO DO NEXT?
On Monday, April 11th starting at 9:00am Eastern time, please call and or email Commissioner Benepe's office and Mayor Bloomberg's office and let them know the following:
- You are not happy with being discriminated against as a group. You want to enjoy your hobby the same as any other group and that metal detecting is a lawful hobby that should not be restricted.
- Demand that NYC Department of Parks and Recreation repeal rule #1-04b5 prohibiting the use of metal detectors.
Their contact information is listed below. This will only take a few minutes of your time and together we can ensure our right to enjoy our hobby on public use land. You don?t need to be from NY or even own a metal detector to let your voice be heard. Across the USA, there are many more of us than there are of them. We need to stand unified and demand that we not be restricted when it comes to enjoying our hobby on public use land. .
