I wanted to put this under detector brands.... but thats the problem.... I was little and dont remember.

My Dad bought a detector from the Spiegel catalog in the late 70's. I want to say it cost around the $70-$79 dollar range. The circuit box had 2 knobs on it SENS and Disc... had an analog needle gauge on it. The The circuit box was gray or silver. I believe it took 4 9v batteries. The one mark I remember was on the coil (which was white). A crossed Pick and Shovel.

My Dad always told me is was a bit of a cr@p detector... didnt stop my 8 year old butt from digging up every plow point within a square mile... and half of a pistol. Dad didnt do too bad either... he got a civil war sword and some gold rings.

It got sold in a yard sale when I was in my teens... and now I wonder what it was that I learned on. Kinda got nostalgic over thinkin bout it.

You guys know this one?

Whites made a lot of detectors that were sold thru dept stores back in the 70's but not sure if they sold thru Spiegel

I think the Shovel and Pick logo was Gold Mountain but can't confirm it.

OK... Thanks for puttin me on the leads... I googled the crud out of this and found a hit under Gold Mountain.... but for some reason... the result popped back something that looks like it. Looks like it may be a Bounty Hunter.

{alt}

mine did not have a stabilizer on it though. Im pretty sure that was the logo on the coil.

Looks like the Radio Shack versions they made as well. I dont remember it saying Micronta on it though.

It sounds like a detector I had back in the late 70's and I found out later that it was a Whites. That little detector was so much fun, I found numerous nickels and even a few nice rings. I wish I still had it.

Those were all early Chinese models made in Macao and rebranded. Several companies, Radio Shack included, put their own labels on them and sold them as store brands. Even today, over here in Oz, Dick Smith's Electronics sells them with their own label on them.

Basically if it looks like the one you pictured, it was made by the same company.
