Are you frustrated by the local worked out parks and schoolgrounds? Then you should take a closer look at old homes!
Be sure these yards aren't worked up yet. At first it may sound strange to you, but why not simply ask a house owner for permission to hunt his yard?
Tell him that you won't damage his lawn and invite the owner to come along with you and finally offer him to share all finds.
When looking out for homes, concentrate on the older ones. Often you'll find houses that were be built around 1600, or even before. Just imagine the spectrum of coins these house yards could contain!
Go even as far as to making up flyers that you'll leave in the mailboxes of older homes that you would like to detect...believe it or not the owners are even more curious than you as to what they have been walking on for all these years.
Here a few points you should keep in mind, when asking for permission:
* Introduce yourself and state - up front your objective
* Bring your detector to the door and show the Homeowner exactly what you will be doing
* Show your actual digging tool and put to rest any myths that you will be using a shovel
* Explain that because this is a residence the incidence of trash items will be minimal
* Offer to share all finds, letting the owner pick and keep any find ... they usually will let you keep the rest
* Ask questions and encourage the homeowner that you would be happy to detect any neighbor's yard
When having finished with the yard, why not continue in the cellar?
Why so? Just imagine your house was built around 1600 ... many years have passed since ... and many wars. Whenever there were ears, people used to hide their belongings in a safe place. Often this place was the cellar of the people's home.
But often the owners got killed or had to flee, leaving everything forever in its hiding-place, nobody remembering it.
So some treasure could be waiting for you, right downstairs. Why not take a look?
But don't pull down the whole house just because you've detected a gas line in the wall! Best use a UV-Lamp when going for these caches.
