Thanks MetalMaster for those tips. After my recent experience on sand I can now see where I may have gone astray. Will now take your tips and try again.

I run the cable up the shaft about a foot then coil it up to the box, you must tie it off in several places, i like velcro straps the best. It seems to work well for me, but for others it doesn't work at all, could be different machines act differently so give it a try and see how it works for you.

Must say that people that have never used a Ace 250 should give it a try, i have two fishers and still amazed with the performance of the Ace.

I did a little experiment with a ground hog ( no 250 ) the silver max and a Bounty Hunter.
I run the cable straight up to within a foot of the box taping it ever few inches I saw no differences in the Ground Hog or Silver max but did notice the BH gave less ghost signals so maybe something to this.

I took the cable off the detector and put it back on as you indicated, being very careful to .leave no slack and keep it as far possible from the coil. Tried it out in our backyard and the results were impressive. Almost no falsing and pinpointing was so much easier.
