Go Up Go Down

Not too long ago I discovered two garbage bins completely full of trash and completely covered up by soil next to a door on  building that used to house dairy cattle. I dated them back to somewhere between 1940 and 1970. I have yet to go through them. I admit, at first I thought it was a little gross that someone would just cover them up with soil instead of haul it out to a dump, but stranger things have been done on old farms.

However, now I'm kinda curious as to whether or not there might be some interesting finds in them. There probably isn't much but perhaps there may be some old bottles or something else interesting. Do you all think I'm crazy for digging through them? Any comments as to what to keep my eyes open for? Of course anything semi-interesting I will keep. I'll post photos when I get around to taking some. Might be awhile though.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I would definitely go through the two cans.  I have already done so and I have found some interesting items.  I found an old jukebox in one of them, about around 50 years old!!.....Couldn't really tell why it got in there but it doesn't work.  If you have a lot of time, I would say go for it.  You could find some things that you wouldn't expect in them.  Maybe something got thrown in there on accident and no one ever realized it.  The possibilities are endless!!

Can't wait for any photos, if you find anything interesting. Wink

Funny thing.....My father garbage picked a Garrett Freedom ACE Plus....I didnt know it but when I told him I was interested in detecting he pull it out of the garage. He said he didnt even change batteries and it still worked. He use it to find his arrows in the back yard while target shooting. I gave it a go and now I was hooked. A week later I was out to get my first detector an ACE 250.  Detecting

I just got one (Ace 250) several weeks ago but haven't been able to get out with it except for short bursts in the yard.  I have learned a few things about it and have vowed to just set at the table with a bunch of metal instead of going out the next free time I get.

Go Up Go Down

So I finally went out and did a little digging through those old garbage drums. I gotta admit it was a little strange at first and I was kinda wondering what I was doing and if it was sane but after about five minutes I settled down a little and started to enjoy it. I didn't find anything really interesting but maybe I will when I go back. After about twenty minutes into digging I got a migraine that ended my hunt.  Oh well!

Here's some pics of what I did find. Like I said, nothing special.

Besides a lot of broken glass there were some semi old pop cans. Will take and post more pics later!

The one chunk of metal that says "USE LIMITED SLIP DIFF LUBE ONLY" looks like something off an old engine perhaps???

Thanks for looking!

That can looks a bit interesting, that tag item looks interesting as well.  Hopefully you can find something worth a little something.  Keep at it!!
