I am planning on buying a Tesoro soon and was wondering. Do metal detectors have serial numbers on them so they can be tracked down if stolen or should you scratch your drivers license number inside the case somewhere?

Most manufacturers number them...

Tamper Proof foil label some place.

Inside the battery compartment is a favorite.

Thanks. May still be a good idea to put license # in somewhere too.

Hi,
Actually I'd use a number you made up (alpha-numeric) rather than anything like ss# or license #.  In this situation
we're all in where ID theft is full blown.  You might want to have the serial number ingraver (in a hidden location) or
a made up number to report to law enforcement if your machine is stolen.  I'd be careful in using government issued
numbers (though a non-ss# DL number might be a good choice).

A good place is on the battery door or pull back the handle rubber and scribe the # there- don't expect the worst- expect in finding the best find EVER- think positive- remember basketball Jones he slept with his basketball to keep it from being stolen- you may need to do the same-just with your detector

I agree on a homemade serial..++ Picture of MD with serial... I'm not saying it might happen, but you never know with all the crazy MD laws being passed out there.. you never know if it ever get confiscated as well... you may be able to claim it.. you want it personalized.. to ID..
