Go Up Go Down

I took delivery today of a Fisher 1212X that i bought from a fella on another forum. It is a simple 1 knob detector similar to the Tesoro Compadre except it works at a much lower frequency. I took it out in my yard just now to try it out and must say it does pretty good. It got a nice strong signal and i Xed it to pinpoint and started to dig. Took out a 3 sided plug about 4" deep and checked it again with the Fisher. it said the target was still in the hole so i dug another 1" or so and then came in the house and got the Garrett Pro Pointer. With it i figured out it was still deeper. I finally got to it at about 7". The blade on my digger is 6" and it was past the hilt. Turned out to be an old rusty weight set locking collar. Not worth anything but is hows that that old Fisher is capable of decent depth. Be a good little detector for someone wanting to keep it simple. I think i will stick with learning my Ace 250 though, so this one will go on the block. Here is a pic of the find.

Do you have a backup detector, mate? Even though you never, ever intend for your detector to break down, things do happen. It's always great to have a backup machine that pleases you. For that "just in case" moment.

A guy I used to hunt with backed his car up with his detector leaning against it. He was just moving it back around 6 inches or so. He thought. It fell under the rear tire and got "a bit flattened" by the experience. Off to Garrett it went and they charged him all of $38.00 to replace the case and stem (older metal case). The electronics survived! Imagine that!

But his Fisher (forgot the model) came in handy while he was waiting for the verdict from Garrett.

Another fellow I knew had his car stolen with his best detector in the trunk! Like a true treasure hunter, he was more worried about his metal detector than about his car. The car was insured so it was a no brainer for him. They found the car two weeks later with the detector still in the trunk in perfect condition but his backup machine kept him going for those two weeks.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

No, actually i don't. But i am looking at 4 of them right now, so should have a backup soon. One more like the Ace with tones and displays, and such. Cheesy
