Hi guys we have a stream where supposedly an Indian battle was fought. do you think i could metal detect there its just considered as a stream to the DNR or whoever runs that stream. also the banks are privately owned but i don't know who owns it is there aa way i could figure that out?

Use Google satellite mapping to find the plot number or address and then go to the tax assessor. They ALWAYS know who owes them taxes.

Golddigger1950 is right - the tax assessor is the way to go.  Just a point here about streams and creeks.  In most states, the water belongs to the state. Private ownership does not include the land that is below high water mark.

My dnr officer here says there is also some sort of federal inland water laws that arent enforced here. just a fyi.
