[detecting]Has any of the folks here come across a meteorite or good size piece with a whites detector and if so how did the detector react to it?

Adrian, it is possible that you didn't get a response because no one met the conditions (at least in their own mind)....Good-sized piece could mean just about anything.  And it could be that no one who knowingly found a goodsize meteorite was using a Whites at the time (which isn't to say a Whites couldn't be used).
If I haven't gone hunting for a meteorite with my Whites and haven't accidentally found what I at least think is a meteorite, I'm not going to respond to this post----at least not until you complain that no one is responding.  Wink

Adrian if your whites has got an all metal , or a prospecting mode then you should pick up iron based meteorites with out too much trouble or in the relic with zero disc ,

I've got some iron based rocks and they only make a sound as the coil goes past the rock , if you set up in relic with zero disc you will get a soft sound or should i say a smooth sound in the prospect mode you' get the zip zip sound ,

BA's reply was logical. You asked a specific question and in all honesty could have been answered with two words. "It beeps."

Then you asked why you got no replies and also added a few comments which did elicit some answers. BA wasn't ruffled and your question was a good one but as BA said, too specific and vague at the same time. Think about it.

How many people with White's detectors can match the criterion you set forth? Not too many. Even worse, as BA also said, you really were kind of vague in your size of the object.

Questions are good. Very good. They do need to be thought out if you want lots of answers. If you are really keen on finding meteorites, a better way to phrase it would have been this.

"If you have found a meteorite with your detector, what kind of machine were you using, how big was your target and how did your detector react to it?"

That way you would get lots of data. In fact, it may drive you to looking for a new machine one day that is better suited to your desires at some later date. You'll also get answers from White's owners.
