Not really that close except in function. Mine is electric and uses a floating inner tube next to me with a net to salvage the items. I also use a water motor proportioner instead of a water jet. It uses less energy so I can use an electric pump instead of a gas driven one. Much quieter and less bothersome to nearby beachgoers. The principle of a dredge is the only similarity and even that is tenuous.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

From the land of the Bluenose.....da ...thought this was a hobby.  Did read where a couple that were school teachers sold everythingthey own and moved to the Uk hoping to make their living detecting.  L [idiot]ast I heard they now reside at the salvation Army!

Go Up Go Down

I've known a few that have made a living at it, although more make a living writing about it than actually finding the stuff (unless they strike it big a couple of times)

By the way, this is another older topic, but it probably deserves to be resurrected.   Should make for some interesting reading.....especially if anyone has managed to make a living at it since the original posting in 2009.
