hi guys,

im a newbie on this forum and new to the entire metal detection thing so please excuse any ignorance, i am interested in searching a particular area i know might contain some valuable minerals but i have heard that certain metal detectors can be detected and your exact location pinpointed. Do commercially available metal detectors really give off a signal that can be easily detected and/or is there any way around this or is there any models that cannot be detected?

if anyone can point me in the right direction for any sources of information on this I would be grateful

thnks

Well, any metal can be detected but minerals NOT containing metals such as Diamonds, Opals etc. can not be detected by any device. What minerals are you looking for?

sorry i need to rephrase my question, what i mean is that the detectors on sale in the country i want to dig in can be detected by transmitters. IE they give off frequencies that can be detected by satellite, so my location can potentially be pinpointed as soon as i turn on the detctor. i dont know if this sounds far fetched but i dont want anyone to know were i am digging or be able to pinpoint my location. I am looking for gold and know there is a source were i intend to dig, i just need to be able to detect discretely

Hello Kam , Christian is correct you have nothing to worry about . Most satellites are 22,500 miles away in a geosynchronous orbit . And most transmissions are c,k,and ku band [microwaves] !!!.........Anyway ,  2.5khz to 100 khz is the range of todays VLF metal detectors . Add a maximum search coil diameter of 3 feet you are only going to transmit 7 feet "in the air"
REMEMBER IN THE AIR , NOT IN THE GROUND !!!!! There is no way a metal Detector signal can reach a satellite . I would be more worried about thermal imaging or photographs from a spy plane/spy satellite !!! You may have to prospect at night wearing thermal blocking coveralls and wear night vision goggles

Best Regards..............Eugene52

Do not take your cell phone to your location. Do not talk about your location or use the words gold, nugget, deposit &C. Happy hunting.  Smiley

Shocked    With the right Equipment, I could tell you what letter your typing in a select type writer.

I really don't think any one would care about you and yer detector out in the field. Grin

If 250 Milli Watts on a Cell phone can make it 45 miles to a tower,  I would bet it could make it to a geostationary satellite.

Don't fear the Great Government!    Fear you own Fear!

A PI detector would show up like a Lightening Storm! In the Radio Spectrum!
