Garrett GTP 1350
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:41:53 pm »
Go Up Go Down

So, I have been posting about the problems of my Garrett GTP 1350.  I had sent it in last week and arrived at the Garrett Factory Wednesday.  I had called the factory today, to see to the repair.  Here were the results.

My detector was in desperate need of repair.  There was many parts replaced and the search coil was replaced.  Having it for four years, I had sent it back for the first time.  Basically, they had to replace the entire detector almost.  It ended up being $115.00 altogether, including $14.00 shipping.  I can't wait to get it back, to see how it will perform.

I also have a question.  How often should you send your detector in to have it checked? Thanks for any input.

Hi Metal
I had a Garret for 29 years and never had any trouble with it and it still goes ok .
You could of just been unlucky but I would imagine there could of been something else involved in your problem .   for one thing if you live near the beach or if you detect along the beach regularly the salt water or salt air can effect your electronics very severely over a period of time .  Check to see if the coil is waterproof , some of them are not and the type of batteries and battery condition can create problems .  for instance if you leave flat batteries in your detector for a long time the acid can leach out and get into your electronics , also I've been warned not to put L-Ion battreies in a detector that is setup for regular battries IE:  lead acid , Nic cadium , Nic Met Hydrid that might use say 4x aa battries to equal 6 volts ,  because 4xaa L-Ion batteries equal 7.5 volts could blow your detector up

That's a terriffic deal that Garrett did for you/Fine company.
I had a  GTA 350, one of the first made, used it for bout 6 yr, worked fine, sold it to a friend (him and his kids can break anything) well after bout a year he said that detector don't work no more, I checked it out, seems as he or one of the kids  CRUSHED the search coil, told him to get another one-used or new, everything else was fine= HE NEVER DID, still trying to get him to get it fixed. AAARRGGHhhhhh, some people Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Wise

I would never send one in for a so called Tune Up.

Just a wast of time and money unless it is in need of repair any ways.

Worst things you can do to your detector is Get the electronics wet , leave the batteries to leak or lock it in 200 degree car in the summer.

 Cheesy

Yes, the detector was in need of repair and desperate repair at that.  I had detected with it in the rain without a cover for the compartment, so rain and dust could have easily got inside of the housing unit.  I have also been a bit rough and careless with it, but now I will make sure to take good care of it.  I am supposed to get it Thursday, can't wait to see how it will do!! Cheesy
