As far as I know Whites Beach Hunter does not have interchangeable search coils, which I think is not a good point if you plan to hunt different ways in different places. It is a very specific detector.
And you cannot tune discrimination.

Joe.

Whites XLT  and  Surfmaster II

I have a Whites surfmasterII , its a great machine, i hunt fresh water beaches only and in the water with waders(im in Pa. also). I also have and XLT that i use when i land hunt even though i have used my surfmaster II on land. Both machines have a purpose, you can pin-point easier with the XLT and tell the depth. The surfmaster II you have to keep it in motion to pin-point a target and the only way to tell how deep it is is by raising the coil over the target while in motion (the deeper target will stop giving you a signal quicker than a shallow one). I use all metal when i beach/water hunt and when i get a signal i just click on the Disc. and if it still rings i dig it. If it does not ring its usually a bobby pin or a small piece of foil or small nail, whatever machine you decide on you have to learn what it is telling you and practice with it. Check out some of my find's in the beach/water forum. Good Luck Huntin!! DW
