Hey Tyler- I got a place like that- gas weed eater works great- or either a mag. If you are talking about making sure you cover it all- cheap construction flags and mark off the area with them- where are you located? I'm in Mississippi

Hi Tyler.  If you don't have a gas weedeater, maybe you have a manual one (also known as an "idiot stick") that you swing back and forth to chop the weeds down in the area you want to search.  I keep one handy whenever I am hunting old house yards where the grass hasn't been mowed in ages.  Since you will probably want to work very slowly and with your discriminator turned way down, I'd suggest just cleaning, say, a 10-foot by 10-foot area at a time.  When you finish one spot, you can chop weeds in another spot and just keep repeating the process.  It sounds like you have found a real hotspot.   Detecting  I look forward to reading about your finds from it.

Hey better yet find a friend willing to sling the blade- just not like Carl in Slingblade- but cut the grass down while you search- another way is to have a third person to be digging while you detect and you mark the hot spots- you cover alot move ground this way- Texas Jay- it sounds like we need to crank to helicopter up and go help-HUH?

Man you need a magnetometer- especially if this old house site may have had a cellar. Be sure to dig everything- don't forget the possibility of slave tags

Good luck. It will be rough going.

If you use a gas trimmer, be careful and make sure you have permission. (as you always should anyway)

Try walking around over an area to flatten it a bit. Then go back. It will still be tough. Do you have a small scavenger coil?

Swing slow, but keep the coil moving.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Mike

PS keep us all posted

You could be patient and wait for 1st freeze, 1st snow to take the grass down and then detect the area. No snakes, ticks, chiggers to mess with. Sounds like you've found a great place. Sue

I agree.  I plan to go to a area, filled with history, Civil War, etc.  I am waiting for the first of Fall to appear, so that the weather is nice and cool, instead of humid and warm.  If you got the patience, then just wait like said before me.  If not, well, just do what you think is necessary.
