Grab a tarp that's maybe 5-10 feet wide and just as long and throw some heavy logs on it and drag it around through the grass. It should flatten the grass to make it easier to swing the detector. I've never done it, actually just thought of it now but hey why not, it might work!

I suggest a new product put out by Bounty Hunter..."The Bounty Hunter Whacker V"...It is a detector mounted to a 100HP gas engine weed whacker...detect and cut down those pesky weeds at the same time...Not responsible for lost limbs or decapitation...j/k

LMAO...

HH,

On the Serious side, the gas whacker, or a sickle or stupid stick should work well...I do suggest you bring some buddies to help out...

Bring a sharp digging object, as i have noticed, it cuts trough the grass roots easier getting you access much more easier.
Also a mini machete or such can be handy in high grass and small bushes.

Since we still haven't heard a report from Tyler on this great spot, do you think he is still out there chopping weeds and finding old coins galore?   Detecting

Or he suffered the ultimate irony. He fell into a pit with chests and chests full of gold and silver coins and can't get a cell signal. He has to dig the walls out, pile the dirt on top of it all just to climb out. Thus, the next lost treasure is born.

Hi GD.  If that is the case, maybe I'd better take findoldstuff up on his suggestion that we take a helicopter up there and lend him a few hands.   Smiley

Poor Tyler. When he does come back, I hope he enjoys a chuckle over us talking about him like this.

I suspect he had a good day on the property though. No doubt with something that old he'll be carrying back bags and bags of old iron along with the goodies. I once found a place in rural Virginia near Back Bay that was the site of an old boat building facility. Boats that were small enough to take by cartage to the water but too big for the owners to carry by hand. I found hundreds of spikes like miniature railroad spikes that were used to put them together. Once I cleared them out, I started finding some really wonderful coins and artifacts. There's a housing development there now. I know because in 2004, my wife and I went by there and found the place a lot different than when I was there last.
