Go Up Go Down

Ever lost a target that was loud and clear, plain as day?  Most times this happens because it got tipped on edge or jammed down deep into the hole in the digging process.  Believe it or not.  A lot of times a disappeared signal will manifest in your pile of dirt if you take the time to Over Dig the hole, meaning take it deep and wide.  This technique of Over Digging the hole will reveal a disappeared target 9 times out of ten.  It may also reveal other things that were deeper and just out of reach of the detector.  Check the hole over and over, worry it like a dog with a bone, especially when you have heard the good target, but lose it.  It is there somewhere.  And there is probably more, deeper, remember.  Very rarely do targets break up and disappear.  What you will have then is multiple targets.  No, a target which has inexplicably vanished is usually because the target has been adversely moved with the digging implement...best...b

Hi Xavier, I have heard from beginning detectorists that this is a problem sometimes, and I have had it too occasionally...there will also be the case where the target is nullified/occluded because of nearby iron, but over-digging will usually get it...I also wanted to mention that it is always a good idea to spread the dirt you dig, kick it around well, and make sure you check it over and over...more than once i have dug a target and revealed another beneath or beside it which was too deep or not very detectable until some dirt is removed....best....b

-  Being  a Gold digger, I just dig the hole until the Target is not longer in it or until I find it.   Then I just wave hand full after hand full of dug dirt until I find it over he Coil.  Works for me.

When this happens this can be caused by disturbing the Halo effect and yes this does exist Because I have dug Copper coins and then lost them and when I have found them I swept the piece of Dirt (Clump) over the coil and it has set off the detector and when I looked at it IT was stained a Rich Green colour/color and doing tests on that dirt I found if I kept it moist and in A clear plastic bag it kept setting the detector off for years and if it dried out and I just added some water it would set off the Detector again,

I used a Minelab Muskateer Advantage running at 5 kHz and it kept going off over this patch of ground but I dug all over the place for about half an hour, In the end I found it and with the use of my pinpoint probe I got it and it was a Tiny piece of Tear Drop shaped Lead and it weighed 0.1 grams OR 1.543209 Grains which just goes to show how sensitive 5 kHz are to tiny Items baring in mind the detector was using the Halo effect that time Too,

Now I use that same piece of Lead to Test Coils for their sensitivity and to Map their detection Field because there are so many coils out there where the detection field is not uniform, So far CoilTek Have come up to be the Best so far with a 99% perfection Rate out of the After Market Brands and the Most Sensitive and Even Coils to Date are Whites, Which explains why I have seen some extreme Depths Achieved at Low Gain settings. And every one of My Whites Coils can see this Test Piece and So far no others have matched Them, But I am sure that there are others out there that will keep up with the pace, But I also have some extreme tests that I do as well,

Hope this helps,,     AU
