Do you have any advice on what type of pinpointer to use.  Mine only vibrates, need one that makes sound.

I use a pistol probe-it makes a noise but is kinda expensive($170+tax)but its the best one I 've used yet.Stay away from automax V4-have one and its 100%JUNK.pistol probe works like a mini pi detector-suppose to be able to hit coins at 6".The best I did just playing around in the yard was some old nails and  a door pull at 4"-no detector just playing with the probe-waveing it at the ground about an inch up from grass.

Wish I had seen this BEFORE I ordered my Garret.  I felt I couldn't go wrong buying from Kellyco and even asked here at Thunting.com if anyone had ever heard of the v4 or used it.  I should have waited for a reply or taken no reply as my answer.  I agree with the "worthless" evaluation.  I'll save up now for a pistlepro or something like it.  I have always found in buying tools that you get what you pay for in most cases.  I've seen other threads here where people have gotten good work out of a 2.99 garden spade and I kind of hoped the v4 was like that.  It could have been worse, I could have payed the $120.00 that they said it was valued at insted of just the $19.95 for shipping.  Oh well, you live you learn!

I bought a Garrett Pro Pointer in March and have used it every time since. I wish they made this one years ago because it's lightweight, built solid, water resistant and runs forever on one 9v battery. It's still on the battery that came with it.

Mikewaz;
I wasn't as clear as I should have been.  I bought a Garret 250 and got the V4 pinpointer "a $120.00 value for ONLY 19.95 shipping".  I like the 250.  Not so happy with the V4!

I have Garrett Pro-Pointer, which I had got from Kellyco.  I have 100% satisfactory, though I think that I need to get some new batteries for it, since it is running low.  Don't get the White's Bullseye pointer, that thing doesn't barely make a noise even audible enough for a soul to hear!! Grin

I did the research, read the reviews and bought a Garrett Pro Pointer.  First time out gave me confidence that I did the right thing.  Sometimes I can use the PP to pinpoint the target before I even dig!  Other times cutting a single plug will allow me to find the target with ease.
