A young friend of mine has been borrowing one of my machines and has now found enough money (Yipee!) to buy one of these. Upon being asked about the relative quality, I had no answer. Does anyone have experience with this model? Tales to tell? Reviews?

They seem to sell a lot of them so perhaps one of them was purchased by someone here.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello Ray,

I'd recommend to clearly stay away from it. It is one of the Chinese junk detectors produced for maybe 10 bucks. A little more money will buy your friend a beginner detector from Garrett or Tesoro or for example an older Tesoro machine which sure will be a better choice. Especially considering the Australian soil.

Best wishes,

Christian

Thanks, Christian. I am tempted to just give him the machine he has been borrowing and tell him to save his money. He is not in much of a hurry since he has that machine to keep him occupied so that advice to wait for a better one at the right price is a good bit of advice.

Hello . Christian is Correct . It is made in China , the model number is MD 5002 and runs unstable at 6.99 khz . For $10. dollars would make an excellent Metal Detector project to take a part , modify and improove , also tear a part the search coil to see the poor workmanship and what can be done to improove it .

Eugene52, that is not quite the same unit but I will put him off buying one. I found a similar unit for half the price right here in Australia so if he is going to buy one, he should do it in Oz rather than from Germany.
