Amen There might be a change that treasure hunters weren't expecting........ help from the Federal Government. I was just reading an article TODAY in the paper in regards to state deficits, and having too unfortunately close down state parks and national historic sites due to financial crises. So blah blah blah were not really sorry for them, and there leave history in the ground policy.  [amen]So it goes to say, there is a high chance (90%) that the Federal Government will step in and take over all state historic sites and would be changed to a federally funded program....... which means for you people who don't know federal statutes Teach................ THERE IS NO BAN ON DIGGING OR TREASURE HUNTING CURRENTLY BY THE FEDS!  [clapp]Going to be interesting to see which ones are taken over nationally. -GW HUNTER- OUT Great

I am sure that Speaker of the House will figure it out. She has a way with making no fun laws

Not so fast. The feds regulate digging and collecting in national parks and historic sites. Don't dig there unless you have a permit (which you can't get). In some sites you are violating the law by having a md in your possession. On other lands it may not be against regulations to md but digging is out AND You can't md without digging. Get it? I suspect any time the Feds come in and take over, the restrictions will be tighter not looser....I have a cousin in Utah whose husband works in the legal dept of the B.L.M. He says they prosecute 3 to 4 md-digging cases each year under the Federal Antiquities Act.

yeah i know MD is notorious for that, and some Civil War States.  Club Each State is different. NJ  Rider seems to produce the most artifacts for American Revolutionary sites. which is my interest. Amen I really am not too worried, they can't afford to pay anyone to enforce any areas in NY. What areas were enforced are now shutting down or shut down.  Hello When i am deep in the woods early in the morning, there isn't anyone around for a mile or so. Plus you know your good when your sneaking up on deer and trukey!  Great

I guess I'm a little paranoid. I went to an old swimming hole that we used when I was a kid. The county road runs right by the lake shore the map shows the right-of-way extending down to the lake so I thought I was ok. I was poking around in the weeds looking for some level ground and damn! there was a sign in the cattails. No digging, no collecting etc, etc. The lake shore is now part of a state conservation area.

I AM CAUTIOUS, but i really don't pay attention to boundaries anymore. I would have still detected if it is desolate area.

rj39ny, Well I had to give it up because the area is grown up now. In 1959 it was an orange grove but 50 years later the town has grown out to this area.  There are 3 really big houses across the road and the there is a resort across the lake.
