The answer really depends on a lot of factors. Where are you working? Under what conditions? What are you searching for?

Perhaps if you described your project a little better without giving it away, some answers might be there for you.

I split your post from the place where you left it so it would get a bit more attention.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thanks for the reply. We will be working mostly in mountains and river sides. There are plenty of rocks on our site.

We just want to make sure that what we will purchase will be most beneficial.

Crine, we still have to know what you are seeking. If looking for ore, a metal detector won't do you a bit of good. If looking for gold in nugget form, a small detector is best. If looking for an anchor buried 6 feet in the ground, a twin box detector is good. If you are just out looking for relics, another type is recommended.

Do you see now what I am looking for? You need to give me details. Don't give away the location if you don't want others elbowing their way in but for the benefit of a qualified answer, spill it, mate. Seriously.
