Yes can do Carl. I only wish that I could have made it a single sided board though.

It is what it is. I think you should run with it.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Wish that Vaquero had that. However the PI I am building only responds to non-ferrous. No need to know if its iron. The Tesoro is for that. Discrimination sure does play havoc with depth penetration. Just ordered a Tesoro lower shaft to put on my Garret shaft so it will mate with my homemade search head. The lower shaft is made of fiberglass.

whatsmynewmonikercarl

I wrote Garret shaft, but meant Gardiner shaft. Its from and old 70's Gardiner 250 I use to own but it had way too many controls so I mothballed it. Still got the box, coil, and straight shaft. No cable for coil. it's a cable with 5-pin din plug on each end. Just in case someone wants it.

Obviously that was a VLF detector. Why don't you hold on to it, it could be a good coil for a project some day. What frequency was it running at?

I have a hand drawn schematic that I got from the internet, but it didn't mention the frequency. I am expecting it to be around 6 or 7 KHz. I will have to research it some more.
I purchased a Vibra-Probe 580 waterproof (to 100 ft) PI pointer yesterday from the net, and expect it to arrive by Saturday latest. It has no switches, no tuning, tilt on/off, auto battery shutdown, and vibrates. Also it detects from only the tip. I will give my Centech to the grandkids and tell them it's a cattle prod. That ought to be good for some laughs. Cost was US $129.95.
How are you getting along these days?
Carl

Hi Carl

I etched the board yesterday but it did not come out too good. I got the top copper and bottom copper to a line up just great but some of the tracks were burned by the acid. I'm just going to use some wires to repair it for now, once tested and proven I'll make a new board for it.

Well started to put the board together so instead of posting the photos here I'm starting a new thread for it.

GD  if u can get a 4in or 5in for that Tesoro and go back to that ugly park and detect it slowly u might pull out some coins or rings, That's one of the best places to hunt when everyone gives up and leaves. Those small coils work wonders. I love those 4in Tesoro coils.  shortribs

Well, today I finally convinced myself to take shortribs advice and go back to the "Junk Yard" this afternoon and use the 4 x 7 coil that BA loaned me. If you don't hear from me in a few days, you might want to ask the local police here to check on my welfare. I want to be buried in the goldfields, not the "Junk Yard" please. Grin Grin Grin Grin

Well, I went to the Junkyard again yesterday, and believe it or not I'm got out alive. I went over the same spot again with the Tesoro and a 4 x 7 coil and found quite a few pop-tops, bottle caps, and iron Junk, that is until I was almost ready to give up. I found a fishhook with attached sinker, and a little later a 1991D Roosevelt clad dime. See attachments. Score ME=+2  Junkyard =-2. Thanks for the advice shortribs.

Update: Don't know how the fishhook got into the park, There are not any fishing ponds anywhere in or near this park. It was down 3 inches.
The area is between the 4 foreground trees in the attachment. They are about 25 feet apart.

Forgot to mention that I also used the VibraProbe pinpointer, and it helped tremendously in the pinpointing department. I was able to dig much smaller holes because of it. I must say the DD coil is not all that good for pinpointing. I feel I made a good purchase.
