Think Small To Find Big Metal Detecting Sites

Finding productive sites to go metal detecting at times may seem next to impossible. Many of  the older more productive sites have been beat to death by other hobbyists using top of the line metal detectors. Although I am a firm believer that no site is ever completely hunted out, I do believe many more popular sites have been hunted to the point of worthlessness. The whole situation can become a very frustrating event if you let it. So before you get to down and out let me assure you that there are still many very productive sites left. To find them you are going to have to start thinking a little differently, you have to break the mold and start thinking small instead of big!

Once you catch on to the whole micro site thingy, new and productive metal detecting sites will start popping up all over the place! Micro sites are everywhere and are usually overlooked by most hobbyists. That is because most hobbyists think alike and most hobbyists are, with all due respect lazy. They opt for the biggest, easiest most obvious sites overlooking the treasure trove right under their noses.

Once, i used to pas this really old store / cabin on my way to town. i always thought that place would be beat to death as some put it, but one day i saw the man mowing the land and stopped to talk to him. I asked him how many people has asked to MD here, i thought he would say thousands, but he said, none. None he said, so i asked him if i could and he that would not be a issue, so those places that you think are beat to death just might not be. havent found anything yet, lots of trash but once i get it cleaned up im sure i will find something nice.

Anywhere you might find a little dirt or grass where a lot of people pass could be a candidate for a good   Detecting Even if it's only one square meter Wink

This is simular to some other Pin Pointing detectors.
However. The Meter and other small circuit differences, gives better performance.

On the Schematic, I show Two Possible Coils.

1) The Ferrite Rod, creates an Accurate Pin Point.
But it also has a Very Narrow Detection Field.

2) The Dual Wound "Tesla Coil" Creates a Wide Field of Detection.
With Maximum Sensitivity at the Center of the coil.

Detection of metal is with a Meter and LED.
The Meter Gives a Much Better Sensitivity.

On My Prototype, I can detect a 1/8 Gram Gold Nugget at One Inch,
With Either the Tesla Coil or the Larger Ferrite  rod coil.
But Only about 1/2 inch with the Tiny Ferrite rod one.

Changes to capacitor "CX" will change the Operating Frequency.
It may also Improve Sensitivity.

HI         Small......I made a post recently about recovering 72 silver half dollars in about 5 hrs. The area I hunted was a relatively unkown beach in Va.. There is only a 150 yds of beach which was used by a small number of people. Many years of erosion had washed at least one house into the water and I can only assume that my find came from that house
or it's previous yard where coins were buried. So small beaches can produce especially where
there were very old houses or plantations along rivers etc....        Happy Hunting John in Va.
