Casca, if u want to fix it up to put into the truck for nail shooting or a quick once over at the tot lot ,
there great for that. and if it happens to get stolen then ur not really out anything.
I buy several cheap FT's or BH's etc at yard sales etc, use them when i go to the parks etc, when kids follow me around , i let them use the cheap ones, if they really get into and seem to enjoy it and actually find something , most of the time i just tell them to keep it.

the look in there eyes when they find that first target is priceless and well worth the $15-25$  I spend on the little MD's , Don't do that much anymore now that I mostly get around with a cane or scooter etc,
but i still keep a few of the cheap ones around just in case.

Karl, I had a bad day today, been trying to get out with a guy here in town. A cane or wheel chair would not have helped me today. Its a red meat thing, had a great time the night before for my sweety.

I would think with all you have to do to ground balance the Famous Trails it would be a little deeper, I may just use the poles for my nail hunter, that lil thing is slick for a quick hunt.

Thanks

I believe its Famous Trails model 3006. It takes 6aa battery's . The connector on the coil wire went bad. It has a 8inch two coil, coil.  Lots of knobs, and the manual says you ground balance it in the air, then the ground. Has the TR1 and TR2 mode also.

I can usually get 5 inches on air test with the cheapos, but they go deeper in the ground. The analog meter is great for knowing if its metal or mineral. I like the no motion machines, and tone. But the cheapos dont like iron rocks in the soil, or wet soil, like my bounty hunter. The Bounty Hunter is a clad eating devil. But the cheapos dont let a pull tab pull the signal like a bounty hunter.

Im gonna play with my harbor freight and see if yesterday was just a fluke, cause it was really nice and fun. But I really want to get a couple of higher end machines.
