'I dug down and realised what i'd found was a bomb'
Oct 19 2006 By Mark Davison surreyonline.co.uk

A BOMB disposal team was called out to countryside at Salfords on Sunday after the discovery of an unexploded German incendiary device buried in a field.

. . . The drama occurred just half-an-hour after members of a metal detecting club, who had been given permission by the landowner to hunt on the farm,. . . . .

. . . . the only other discoveries in the field, said Mr Mintey, were a Victorian shilling, a 1924 half-crown and a farthing from the 1800s, in addition to a discoloured 50 pence piece.

I am sure there are thousands of them lying all over the UK.

At least no one was hurt by the device then.  A fun hunt could have turned to tragedy quite quickly.  At least all turned out as well as could anyway.

Well it sounds as if the bomb had gotten wet and "slowly" burned rather than exploded...these had very thin cases....they hadly look like bombs when they hit the ground and don't explode.

As I said there must be 1000s all over the UK..as well as the rest of Europe.
