I have heard that the soil condition can affect detecting performance.  That different detectors do better in certain soils.  Well, I wanted to see if anyone had the answer to this or not.  My area has a lot of clay, and if the soil condition fact is true, then what would be ideal for my soil condition, clay?

Vast question.

The better way to cope with particular ground conditions is to have a detector with manual adjustable ground balance or automatic, self tracking ground balance;

Beware of cheap entry level models claiming of automatic ground balance, they are just factory set ground balanced to achieve decent performances in average soil conditions.

Okay then.  I plan to purchase a Minelab X-Terra 705, which has manual and auto ground balance.  I imagine, by what I understand, it will adjust to my soil condition, clay?

Yep !

Should do a good job. The X)705 in prospecting mode even performs well on wet salt sand.

I believe Beach Comber is right on here.

I would suggest havin at least two coils.

One with tha 18.75kHz operating frequency.

That gives more huntin options.
