I have used my home-made beach helper for 10 years. (small bamboo rake, dollar store strainer.)  Total cost less than 5 dollars.  The spade and hand-rake for dirt I have had for 5 years at a cost of 5 dollars at a discount store. (see picture)  What do you use?

Jim, that is one NICE beach tool.......I think I'll try to fashion one of those the next time I go someplace with a beach (beats trying to ship an expensive commercial model that doesn't even have the handy rake attachment).

I use those little red flags on wires I pinpoint a target and flag it set in the shade and watch my wife dig them. I don't care what she uses she gets her 7 percent. But I do find more when I do my own digging with just a hand trowel. In the water got a big scoop in soft sand a scoop that looks like a big ice scoop with holes.
I do like that design Jim bet it works great thanks for showing use.

Dang!  I need to try that!

I just have a Old US Army folding shovel, Hand Trowel, and a Spoon.  For Crevices I use wire hooks and a small Crow Bar to open the cracks.

Gold I be after.

Hey, good idea.  My wife always finds coins in pockets when doing laundry....bet she could help alot.  I like the idea of the little flags....I'll use that next time.

The small crow bar and a wire sounds good too!  Thanks

I like the rake and strainer combo.  That's pretty efficient thinking.

I'm still figuring out my tools.  So far... a garden trowel and knee pads.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm still figuring out my tools too. I've tried everything from post hole diggers to a pocket knife. In my truck is a shovel, posthole diggers, a small trowel, a plastic spoon and fork, a sheath knife, a serrated steak knife, 2 seives, and a drop cloth, a 24" plastic pan,  a drywall saw, and my favorite...The hand pick shown on my photo. Lately I've just been using the hand pick unless there are roots in the way... I've added a manget to the hand pick and to the small trowel to pull out the iron.

Since I mostly relic hunt I have found the Predator line of digging tools to be the most effective, expensive but high quality.
