There's more then a few good choices for Coin machines well under that price.

If your talking about  a Nugget type machine, your going to need Few hundred more to get in the game.

Any machine running 15 KHz with Manual Ground Bal could work.

If I had the Funds, I sure would like one of these.

$500.00 and some change.

For $400 and under you have a whole lot of very good choices, including the Fisher F4, the Teknetics Delta, the Garret Ace 350, a couple of Tesoros including the Silver Max, the White's Coinmaster Pro, and a couple of BountyHunters.     Any of those are good for coins and jewelry.   And all of them are available new in your price range.

To include raw gold, you'll probably either need to increase your budget a bit or look at used detectors.   If you look at used detectors, look at the Tesoro Vaquero, Tejon, and Lobo  Super Traq, the Fisher Gold Bug as well as some of the Whites and Garretts available in that range

A new Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger is now USD379. I came across it at detection.com. It's older analog tech, but many people still seem to like using it.

I'm sure the Stinger is a great machine, having been in production for so long and I do not want to denigrate it in any way. I took the advice of a chap who owns 2 Stingers (the dual GB knob version and the newer single GB knob version). He owns a Fisher Gold Bug Pro as well, and prefers it over the Stingers for better sensitivity to fine gold @ 19KHz, superior discrimination capabilities, easier to use because of the Ground Grab function, lighter weight and a few more other factors which my tired brain can't recall right now. Unfortunately the GB Pro costs a bit more than USD400 (about 50% more in fact, plus shipping) and I bit the bullet.

To be honest, the low price of the Stinger really REALLY tempted me. I don't know of any other 15KHz machine for such little money and I deem it to be excellent value. I may yet get one to play around with in the future, but first I've my sights set on the AT Pro once I'm sure Garrett's worked all the kinks out.
