ref: irf9640 , yes nice low on resistance of only 0.5 ohms , but only has a 200v limit , i know its a p channel , if a design requires a p channel , surley there are higher voltage options , most n channel designs use a minimum of a 400v mosfet.

Thank you for your recommendation but I wondered why you chose it? Its peak inverse voltage is only 200V, its on resistance is quite high at 0.5 ohm( for a low PIV device) and its a P channel device.
Thanks
Vague

the 0.5 ohm on resistance i'm happy with , it's lower than an irf740(0.65 ish) and irf840(0.8 ish) its the rated voltage that worries me , most designs requiring a p-channel will "hit and hold" this easy resulting in a longer decay time.
have to say , i think it's quite unsuitable for this type of use.

never really looked into p-channel until now , it would appear quite limited in choice , poss why designers use n-channel where there is more choice , lower in price , more generaly available and other thing ive noticed , and stand to be corrected , most of p-channel , on the whole have a higher on resistance and more capacitance and a slower switching speed and lower voltage ratings than n-channel.

Hi Vague. I have been observing other people's experiences. For Surfmaster and Barracuda are best demonstrated IRF9640. Someone uses IRF740, IRF840,IRF9530,TIP127...
