I am new to electronics, and I want to build some coils for my Minelab Sterling. I don't really know where to start. I am going to test the existing coil with an ohmeter to get the readings for that. But then what? Any help would be much appreciated. Also my terminology for this stuff is very limited, so if you use weird words or acronyms please give me a definition.

Thanks

Sean

Start with a Google search and also go to Geotech for scads of information.

That's your homework for today.

To be honest Sean,
Winding coils for a detector (unless it's a P.I.) is to say the least....... difficult.
Getting it as good as the manufacture could is a nightmare.
Taking all the costs into consideration (wire, winding "jig", housing, resin, connectors, postage for some of it if you can't source it locally) ... sometimes it's just not worth it.
Keeping a close eye on Ebay might work out cheaper and a lot less frustrating.
I wanted a 9x10 "web" coil for my Laser/Tesoro, making it would have cost me about ?30 -?40 and a lot of time.
Got one on Ebay for ?28.50!

Paul-

Learned... sort of. Somebody dredged up this ghost and I already peddled this detector of on my dad.

Cheers

Sean
