Discriminating probe. Is there such a thing? I could use one. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to pull a coin out of soil filled with rusty nails. Beep, Beep, More beeps than the roadrunner!

Hepatz, It would only have to have 2 tones. Iron and not iron. I hoped that someone here would know if there is one but the silence is deafening.

It would make sense to assume that if you decided to dig a target and needed a probe to pinpoint it that you have already discriminated your target. Your probe needs to do another type of task. Unless you want to hunt on your hands and knees with your probe, discrimination is wasted.

scoons, Always,

GoldDigger, Thanks for your response, you have a lot more experience than me but it seems that it would be nice to have the probe not go off when you come across a small piece of iron. I've been digging in high iron soil for several days now and spent a lot of time chasing little bits of iron around with the probe.

You may want to try the Sniper coil....narrow down the target.........

Then the answer to your question is that there is no known pinpointing probe that discriminates. Sometimes two pieces of iron near each other in the same hole can fool your bazillion dollar detector so be grateful that you can find them quickly.

GD, I wonder if you could cram all the needed circuitry for discrimination in a probe size package?
mfitzs, I've been lookin at the sniper for a while. I guess that is where I will go eventually.

I think that technologically, it's possible but the real issue is how many people would use it? Try starting a poll in the proper section and see how much interest there is. No matter how possible it is, if nobody wants it, it won't be manufactured.
