just finished building and testing this design. the results are great. 6 inches a clear signal on average coin. very stable design. no stupid reference coils to wind, no brass nuts to turn, no tuning capacitor to adjust. the 3.579545 crystal is so easy to get and the results are very good. this is undoubtedly the Best BFO design i have come across so far. It also can discriminate between ferrous and non ferrous metals.This one is a keeper. Just need to build a nice shaft and housing for the circuit board an I'll post the pics. I used 90 turns of 0.4mm wire,150mm diameter coil.

i like to build that too but styroseal capacitors are not available to our country csn you sdvice any capacitor i might use?

The results were good on the test bench. However this detector needs heavy shielding and is way too unstable when taken outdoors. I shelved it. Bfo detectors suck, I only built them to get the learning curve going insofar as metal detectors go. Now I build only pulse and induction balance detectors.
