Ah yes! the GD48. Built one of those back in early 70s. Never had much luck with it. And as I remember it was front heavy.

The gd 348 is a very good metal detector. I have built one from the schematic and it works great. It has two controls,tuning(null),and sensitivity,and is able to tune out ferrous so it only tones on non ferrous. Great little detector circuit!
