on a serious note, unless the pottery contains metal or was  buried with metal, you're not going to find it with a detector.....UNLESS, you find a large collection of pottery buried together in which case MAY show up on ground penetrating radar....but don't count on it.  (and at best GPR is only going to show you disturbances in the subsurface structure---not what is causing the disturbance)

you should show us some pictures of where you're looking around over there though, I've always been fascinated with Egypt, even tried learning to read hieroglyphs....yeah, it didn't go so well.
