well good for those who can afford it and even better who can read the signs. i have some findings as posted on my previous post but i cant afford to buy a scanner or so called detector for treasure hunting. its really hunting me now. im on hunting mode right now but i cant read those signs. so how sbout anyone can make their own detector or somewhat assemble them together that at least it tells where. or somethings that work least. would love to hear from anyone who had a lot of idea to share. thank you so much for reading. please read ym other post to view some photos.

Well, building your own machine is mainly fun and a learning expirience. However you should keep in mind that it will require technical expirience, time and patience. In many cases it is more economic to buy a good preowned machine rather than building one from scratch.

Regards,

Christian

buldit;

The simplest, to home build, is a BFO, If you have somebody with the skill who can put it together or if you can operate a solder iron and have an inexpensive volt-ohm meter, the kind that has a transistor tester, then you could build it yourself.

BFOs have a drift problem, usually and a possible condition where the reference oscillator locks to the search oscillator frequency. How ever, I  might be able to whomp up a simple, relatively stable design, if you can handle the construction. Takers? (Based on salvaged TV parts.)

The coil can be wound in a circle of copper or aluminum tubing (aluminum is lighter) or,  heavy polyethylene pipe (needs a wood slat stiffener,) and wrap it (after the coil is wound, inside,) with aluminum foil and fiberglass tape. (My spell checker doesnt like Canadian spelling, it keeps underlining words with red lines.)

I did it when I was a kid and with only a Raytheon transistor book as a guide.... it worked. I could find a small coin at 15 cm... with a 20 cm (8 inch) coil, of course a 30 cm or 45 cm coil goes deeper, up to the point of diminishing return.

Can you get any radio Shack stuff there? A cheap Rad Shack  detector is probably as good or better than a build it yourself BFO.

homefire:

NOT simple!

I can build you a ONE transistor BFO locator..... of course the frequency is somewhat too high, so you suffer from surface effect, which prevents good penetration and reasonable depth.... but it would be a one transistor circuit.... look in some of the magazines for beginners, you will find it there. (It needs a transistor radio to pick up the osc. signal and combine it with a local station.)

The location and data is now in my PDF files.... the mixer is different but... it would be easier to use one 741 rather than a handful of transistors, resistors and caps. There are better ways....

Yes a Single Colpitt osc would do !  Radio Receiver!

But they Suck on stability.

I have built these for two kids around here and they will surprise you!

I have a circuit that uses a 4011 gate that is most cool some place.

Seem to have lost it in the bit bucket.

4011, two transistors, xl and coil.

Hey, Mercers! I got my set of plans from Eugene! He happens to be my latest hero. I change heros often and sometimes recycle them.
