Is it possible to interchange coils among different brands of detectors? For example, a  White's coil on a Fisher, etc. I know the sockets would have to match, but wondered if anyone has done this with any success.

I don't think so.

I DO know that Some Fisher and Teknetics (maybe bounty hunter too)are interchangeable, but the biggest "problem" is frequency.
Frequency in a metal detector is referred to in kHz. (kilo hertz). It is the number of times the signal is transmitted and received by the detector every second. For example a metal detector operating at 6 kHz will transmit and received 6,000 times per second, and at 50 kHz 50,000 times per second.
And that is just ONE of the considerations.
And even if you get the same operating frequency you may have other considerations.. (too technical for me.)
There is a nulling and a tuning process that makes them pretty much NOT "interchangeable"
I have never heard of of MUCH success using coils interchangeably.

I Do have a 300, 950, 4x6 and a 3.5" coil that I use on my MXTs, M6 AND my DFX, but could NOT use on an XLT which is ALSO made by White's... but they (MXT,M6,DFX) are all the same basic operating frequency, whereas the XLT while made by white's ALSO, was a different operating freq .

I don't know of any White's coils that are compatible with a Fisher.

If you could tell me what Specific machines and coils you have in mind, the question would be better answered.

Tesoro and "laser" are interchangeable..... but, then again, I suppose they would be. Crazy
