Gdogg are you comparing apples with apples ?

There are a whole host of different types of commercially made Litz wire
with your new coil is the inductance and resistance the same or close to your copper wire coil ?

Hello !!!

Litz wire is used on a few White's and Minelab PI Metal Detector "Search coils" .   The formulas used [number of turns, inductance, resistance] is different than the calculations used for copper enameled wire .

Litz wire is a type of oxidized aluminum stranded wire . Keep experimenting , it is fun to work with and when calculated correctly will have good results .  I believe the White's TDI [Pulse Induction] Machine uses a Litz Wire "DD configured" search Coil !!!

Best Regards...............Eugene

Hi Board, I haven't posted in awhile but find myself indoors more now as fall arrives.  PCB Audio boards for my   ml sd2000  project have finally been finished and should arrive this week so I will be spending  some time finishing soldering and assembly. back to the litz wire question and from what I have learned is the individual strands create a lot more surface area hence better detecting ability and as freq. increases "skin effect" comes into play as the signal tends to ride on top of the conductor.as it turns out  signals prefer shiny silver to ride on so silver plated individually insulated copper wire is more expensive but works the best. cheers Wink
