I would say that it is a bit toy-like even for a beginner. That machine will only barely perform for you. You could spend only a little more and get a much better machine from a garage sale or from Craig's List in your area. For less than $200.00, White's has a new entry level model. For $225.00, a nice Garrett machine could be yours. Give it some more thought. It's really good that you asked.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I agree with GD.   There are alot of machines out there that at least have decent records that can be had for not much more than that.   And if you don't mind a used machine, you can definitely get some great older models for a fraction of what they originally sold for.

Use the search functionality at the top of the page to search "best detector" or "buying tips" to find some past postings that should help you recognize a good deal when you see it.

Hello goldy22 . sometimes Pawn-shops or Craigslist in your city have Metal Detector bargains  . Big5 sporting goods have coupons in Sundays paper at least once a month for Bounty Hunter Elite 2200 for $139.00 , if your on a real budget . And yes you can buy a great used metal detector if you shop carefully !!
